My home security system finally paid for itself last night, although the perpetrator didn't make it past the revised lighting system.

Post-COVID Home Security, Part 6 - 2023
Redid my security lighting again. I suppose I’m a bit obsessive that way but I’m satisfied now. I replaced the garden lights with brighter, solar-powered lights mounted on my house corners for $120. Their solar panels and batteries are 3X larger and coverage is 2000 sq ft so they act

He tried to hop my back fence around 10pm at the easiest point, outfitted with a 1200 lumen LED light. I was driving around the corner when I saw it flash on.

The perp jumped back, temporarily blinded and stumbled around for a few seconds. Then he saw my car, turned his back to me, straightened his black hoodie and headed east. I drove by slowly as he sauntering along. I doubled back a minute later and yup, he was headed BACK to my house.

I stopped about 30 ft from him and he stared at me for 20 seconds, his face hidden behind a white surgical mask. Then he shouted something, threw his hands up as if to say "OKAY, I GIVE UP!" and left the neighborhood.

The dude is lucky. If he'd entered the yard, he'd have run the gauntlet of the big security lights, there's no locks to pick, no inside latch to open deadbolts and the Dakota sensors alert me so I'm ready and waiting.

The irony is the house is almost empty except for me, a tv, a laptop and a laser sight, I have contractors in and out so everything is in storage or safes, there's not much to steal.
