The Gartner Hype Cycle was a popular artifact during the Dot Com bubble to predict the growth cycle of information startups.

The recent spate of negative AI articles is a normal part of the Hype cycle, which is probably now in the "trough of disillusionment". ChatGPT generated a set of positive and negative sentiment queries which I ran against Google trends and graphed the difference.

Positive Query: "AI breakthrough" + "AI productivity" + "AI adoption" + "AI revolution" + "ChatGPT success"

Negative Query: "AI danger" + "AI risk" + "AI threat" + "ChatGPT failure" + "AI layoffs"

And these two queries did flush out a "Trough of Disillusionment", i.e. when the negative aspects of a technology reach widespread recognition. I expect that this hype cycle may repeat a couple more times.
